The Narrows

Wow. I finally have something to blog about. It has been quite a boring time sense I got out of school. But this week I got to go down the narrows with 20 other people. It was quite an adventure.
Wednesday:
We left on Wednesday at about 9:30am. I rode down in Bertha (The lewis' big white van that holds 15 people.) It was Me, Nicole, Jason, JT, Brooke, My Aunt LuAnn, and a lady named Mary Jane. It was about the longest ride ever with Mary Jane asking every hour if we wanted a pumpkin cookie and trying to watch a movie on my very small laptop. At about 2 we were twenty minutes away when Mary Jane asked if we were going to stop anywhere for lunch. WE told her that we were just going to eat when we got there but apparently she did not feel that she could eat there. So we had to drive twenty minutes out of our way into Springdale. As we get to where all the restaurants were she just couldn't decide where she wanted to go. She just keep saying isn't there a McDonald's anywhere. After we told her no like five times she finally saw Taco Bell. As Nicole pulled into the parking lot she says, "Do you just want to go in and order? Or (after a long pause and in a sarcastic tone) Do you want me to take this through the drive through? She just does a little giggle and says yeah. Then Nicole says so you want me to take this through the drive through? She give a little laugh again and says yeah I think you cold do it. SO Nicole takes the bus through up to the speaker and asks Mary Jane what she wants. Mary Jane says I just want a taco and a burrito. Ok, well what kind do you want Nicole asks? Oh it doesn't matter. Wow we were all at this point just plain annoyed. We were tired of being in the bus and she was just being annoying. We finally get to where we were going at about 3pm. We spent the rest of the day just playing outside. We played Volleyball, Soccer, and rode horses. Brooke and I went down to the river and went for a little wade through the water. Then we all went tot he park where we spent hours playing basketball, Volleyball, played on the swings, and rode the rip stick. At nine we headed back to the house where we sat for the next three hours deciding if we were going to go on the narrows the next day. There was a chance of rain and that made a lot of us uneasy. At Midnight we finally decided that we were going to go and went to bed. Jason, JT, Brooke, Nicole, and I went out to sleep on the tramp. Brooke and I could not fall asleep and at one thirty we were still up whispering and Nicole was not to happy about that. She keep telling us to shut up and to stop moving all around. We all talked about just pushing her off the side of the tramp because she was on the end and it would have been fairly easy. At two thirty we finally fell asleep. That morning we had to get up at four to leave.
Thursday:
Surprisingly enough I was not even tired. I was full of energy and ready to go. We got up to the beginning of the hike at about 6:30am and set off. The canyon was completely fogged over and it was only 41 Degrees out so it was a bit chilly. I was soaked up to my knees in the first ten minutes of the hike and I was never completely dry again. It took us about 9 and a half hours to get through but it was a lot of fun. Brooke and I had about an hour or so where it was impossible for us not to slip about every five minutes and fall into the water. It all started when Brooke fell down a rock slab that was about ten feet high. Jason had taken us on this trail that took us up the side of the canyon without anyway down besides these cliffs. We got to where the trail had ended and there was a rock slid. Brooke was up in the front behind Jason and decided that she did not want to slid down next. She was trying to get out of the way so that someone else could go first and she just lost her balance and went rolling down the slab face first. Poor girl got all scraped up but it was the funniest thing that happened the whole trip in my opinion. After that I started to follow Brooke and we took turns falling into the water. The rocks were so slippery and I just could not stay standing up. It did not help of course that Brooke was making me laugh so hard that I could not even stand when I was not moving across the slippery rocks. Along the way we found some fun places to jump of some rocks and Brooke and I were the only ones that would jump off. We figured sense we were already soaked that we would have some fun. I had a couple of bad spills myself. One I tripped on a rock and fell with my leg bent behind me and wow did that hurt. Brooke found it quite funny because I was following her and all of a sudden she heard me saying oh shit oh shit help. She turned around and was laughing so hard that she could not even help me up. After we got on our way again her karma caught up with her she was following me and slipped on a rock and did the splits smacking her you know what on a rock. I tried to pull her up by her back pack but I was laughing so hard that I didn't really have any strength left. We continued on our way practically running through the narrows because Rockey thought that it was going to storm. The only problem was was that we had to stop every half hour or so and wait ten minutes for Mary Jane to catch up. She had a hard time and was falling more then Brooke and I combined. Every time we saw her we just had to laugh because she looked like death. I don't think she was enjoying herself quite as much as everyone else was. The last mile of the trip seemed to drag on forever and I was losing my motivation. I finally made it to the top around four and sat there with JT, Jason, and Brooke. We waited for a half hour for our group to start emerging from the entrance and then we rode the shuttle down to the bottom to catch a ride back to the house. We then waited at the bottom for another twenty minutes for the group to come. By this time we were just tired and sore. We went home and ate dinner and then just sat around for awhile before we dicided that we were going to go and visit Heidi. She lives with her Aunt down there in a paridise house and it was so nice to visit with her. We got home around ten and went straight to bed. Now this is only about half the story but I am sick of writing and I bet you are sick of reading so I will just leave it as it is.
Friday:
We woke up at 6 the next morning, We sat around ate breakfast and then headed back home. We were going to go hiking but we were all to sore to even move so we just headed home. We got home about 2 and then our trip was over. I am glad that I got to go and I really enjoyed myself even if it does not sound like it.
(I will post some picture later because i didn't take my camera.)
