Isn't it Ironic

I have just got over my first cold of the whole winter season. Now I know some of you are like oh you poor baby I have had a cold all year with some flu symptoms thrown in but I have to tell you the story behind this stupid cold and then you might have a little more sympathy.
P.S. To enjoy this story you have to know my family and I really well so if you don't you might as well not read.

It all started last Wednesday when my dad called and asked if I wanted to go to Moab. We were going to take the bikes down and do some slick rock biking and some hiking. I decided sense it was freezing cold here and the fact that I have not been to my mom's house in a year that it would be a good weekend to go down. SO Wednesday night I had to do a bunch of homework so that I could tun it all in early so I could leave with my parent Thursday afternoon when I got out of class. After running around Thursday and getting home from school just two minutes before my mom, dad, and my aunt LuAnn came to pick me up I was on my way to warmth. The car ride down was just hysterical. It was probably the funnest part of the trip. LuAnn and I were in back and the radio doesn't pick up at all for like three hours so my mom decided that she is going
to plug in her ipod and listen to her music and I just have to tell you that it was HORRIBLE. Then my mom decided that she was hungry and she was going to eat a pepper but I told her that I would not hand her one because I cannot stand the smell of them and plus they trigger my asthma. She was like fine then I will just have an avocado. So I handed her her avocado and she began to eat. All was quiet until suddenly she get all upset and says damn it. (She had dropped her avocado on the floor) She then looks at my dad and yells, Why couldn't we just stop and eat somewhere. I hate driving whit you, you just drive right throw and never stop to let me do anything." I thought this was hysterical and I started to laugh and this just made her more mad. She turns to me and says,"It's not funny Shantell I just squashed my avocado in the speakers now how and I suppose to get it out". From then on I just knew that this was going to be a trip of a life time. Thursday was beautiful down there and we spent that evening hiking up cable arch. We got home just after dark and then spent the evening watching a movie.

Friday: The next morning we woke up and anyone knowing my mother we didn't get going until 11. We took the bikes up and did a really fun slick rock trail but of course it rain just a little and anyone that has been on slick rock knows that it get really slippery when it is just a little bit wet but we went anyway. And of course my mom was not happy about this so she was angry and pouting. She wanted to bike a nice flat road so that she could get used to her bike (whatever that means). So she put her headphones in and went ahead of the group. Not long after we got going she I noticed my mom up ahead. She had slide just a little on her bike and got so mad. She throw her bike into a tree and stomped off to hike. An hour later she showed up on her bike to join us. Then she goes into this speech about how she is not going to come home this summer just so my dad and I can control her and make her do things that she doesn't want to do. Wow what a day and it was only 2. So we decided that we were finished biking and we were going to head back down and go for a hike. We ended up hiking this canyon that my mom called boulder canyon. It was a long hike and my mom just kept saying I want to see what is around the next bend. Eight bends later the canyon finally boxed off. I was so relieved. Then my mom turns to me and says, "Aren't you glad that we didn't turn around?' I answered, "Not really. I don't care that we made it to the end. I would have been just as happy if I thought it was a never ending canyon." After sitting at the end of this canyon for about a half hour we started heading back. And as we were about a fourth the way back it starts the rain. I was hiking in scrubs and a tiny little jacket and it was FREEZING. We had to hike for an hour in the rain without it letting up and the next morning I woke up with a COLD. I was so mad plus the fact that the ground was covered with snow! In MOAB

Saturday we ended up driving around waiting for the snow/rain to stop so that we could go hiking. I was just so excited as I was sitting in the back of the car with my nose running, a cough, and the fact that I was freezing even though I was wearing four layers of clothes. Her are some pictures of the storm.

This is a jug handle Arch. Just one of the many arches we saw as we were driving around.

After the storm let up we hiked up to Corona Arch and then over to Pinto Arch. Then we went exploring. we went up this four-wheeler road in my moms lexis and I have to say it was my favorite part of the day. This picture is on the rock that we went under.
Sunday we just went and did a short canyoneering canyon and then headed home.
This was my favorite day because the canyon was so much fun. I wish I wold have gotten picture but I forgot my phone.

I know that that was a long story just to tell you that I got my first cold when I was in southern Utah. But it was a great story. (At least I think it was). What a bummer.

  1. I think it's a great story, too. Except now I have Alanis screeching in my head. I'm not sure if that's worse than a cold or not...
